Congregational Meeting

The members of Christ the King Presbyterian Church are called to a Congregational Meeting on Sunday, November 22, 2020 from 7:00 to 8:00 PM, preceded by a prayer meeting that will start at 6:30p. This meeting will be held virtually.

Business to be conducted at the meeting:

  1. Elect a pastoral search committee* for the purpose of recommending a pastoral candidate for Cambridge

  2. Elect church officers – the slate of candidates to be elected will be shared upon approval by the Session

  3. Share information with the church

Congregational Meeting (10/18)

The members of Christ the King Presbyterian Church are called to two upcoming Congregational Meetings.

The first is on Sunday, October 18, 2020 at 7:00 PM and will be held virtually. Business to be conducted at the October meeting:
1. Consider the resignation of Rev. Rick Downs as Pastor of Christ the King Presbyterian Church
2. Approve a process for forming a pastoral search committee*
3. Hear more information and ask questions related to placing an interim pastor in Cambridge and the search for a permanent replacement

The second is on Sunday, November 15, 2020 at 7:00 PM and will be held virtually. Business to be conducted at the November meeting:
1. Elect a pastoral search committee* for the purpose of recommending a pastoral candidate for Cambridge
2. Elect church officers – the slate of candidates to be elected will be shared upon approval by the Session

Sunday Service

Informational Meeting

The elders will be holding an informational meeting for all members and regular attenders to discuss the outcome of the special case trial. The meeting will happen directly after the service on Sunday, November 10th. Please consider submitting your questions ahead of time so the elders can best prepare for the meeting. There is a link to the google form for questions in an email that went out to all members and attenders. If you didn’t receive that and would like to, please contact office@ctkcambridge.org.

During the meeting, childcare and supervision for kids 1+ years (and walking) and older will be provided in the Social Hall. A few notes regarding child/youth supervision:

  • Parents, please pick up children in nursery immediately following the service.

  • Kids (1+ years and walking) may head to the Social Hall for supervision with volunteers.

  • Parents of Grade K or younger must check-in/out children. ALL parents are asked to pick up children afterwards (so we can account for everyone).

  • Kids will be served a snack during the meeting (bagels, fruit, cheerios & water) and should take a seat at a table when they arrive. If parents have any allergy concerns, you must let Dana know in Social Hall.

  • Rest of congregation – bagels on offer to grab during break near the bookshelves (please try to keep clear of the kids tables in the back).

CW & SS

Our Children’s Worship classes are starting new curriculum materials this Sunday, September 15. This year kids will see God’s redemption of His people unfold in 52 Old Testament Bible stories that point to Jesus (with 52 New Testament stories following next year). Sunday School classes for Middle & High School and Adult Education classes start this Sunday, September 15th.

CW Sign Up

This fall, Children’s Worship classes that meet during the service will be extended through Grade 5. The date this change will take place in September will be communicated to families in the coming weeks. In the meantime to help us with planning, we ask that parents please sign up their children (by Aug 31) to indicate their intent to attend classes for the upcoming school year using this link. Children will continue to be dismissed from the service just before the sermon and return just prior to the Lord's Supper. On the sign-up, you may also express interest in having supervision for children available during Adult Ed (from 9:15-10:15am).

Adult Ed

Adult Ed class:  Pulitzer-prize winning author Marilynne Robinson has written a new non-fiction book called Reading Genesis, which will serve as the basis for our summer adult education series.  We’ll read Genesis stories together and use excerpts from the book as inspiration for the discussion.  If you’d like a copy of the book, please email laura@ctkcambridge.org. Class continues this week, July 7th.

CORI

On June 23, Dana Russell, our children’s ministry director, will be manning a table in the social hall after the service to complete MA CORI background checks. If you are a new volunteer who needs a check or an existing volunteer who needs to renew their check (basically if Dana emailed you that you are due to get rechecked!) please stop by and see her at the table. Please bring an ID as well as the last 6 digits of your social security number.

Q&A

Directly following the service this Sunday, there will be a Q&A regarding the most recent letter from the elders to the congregation. There will be childcare and supervision for all ages provided. A few notes regarding child/youth supervision:

Adult Ed

Next Adult Ed class: Supporting our Youth as a Church Family:  Stories and Discussion. CTK has long been home to a vibrant community of children and families. Our children’s ministry comes alongside them with sound Biblical teaching each Sunday, but how else does our church support the youth among us? This is not a parenting class, but instead a discussion on what it means when we take the vow during infant baptism to “as a congregation undertake the responsibility of assisting the parents in the Christian nurture of this child.”  The presenters (Tim Talun, Gi Yoon-Huang, Michael Poor, and Andy Stuntz) will share their experiences as families with younger and older children of various abilities, people of color, one Christian parent, and growing up at Christ the King Church.  We hope this will help spur discussion on how we can better serve the youth of our church in their Christian nurture. Class runs on March 3 & March 10 at 9:15a in the Social Hall.
